Vitamin D deficiency is closely associated with Parkinson’s disease( PD). Vitamin D supplementation can effectively improve PD condition. Kidney deficiency is closely related to PD. Tonifying kidney is the main therapeutic method to treat PD in Chinese medicine. The authors think that the function of "kidney storing essence"in Chinese medicine is similar to vitamin D. The authors put forward that vitamin D could be regarded as the objective material basis of "kidney storing essence". The related prescriptions of tonifying kidney may regulate the vitamin D
and prevent and treat PD at the same time. The authors hold that tonifying kidney prescriptions treating PD may play a role in the regulation of vitamin D. Vitamin D may be the potential target of tonifying kidney to treat PD.
