Objective To investigate effect of the acupoint heat sensitization moxibustion in treating patients with a stable condition of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD). Methods Eighty-eight cases of patients with COPD at stable phase were collected and randomly divided into control group and treatment group
with 44 cases in each group. Cases of the control group were treated with routine western medicine. On the basis of the control group
the treatment group was given acupoint heat sensitization moxibustion
5 times/week. Both groups were treated for 8 weeks. Peak expiratory flow(PEF)
forced expiratory volume in 1 s(FEV1)
the ratio of forced expiratory volume in1 s to forced vital capacity(FEV1/FVC)
the percentage of FVC to normal reference value with 75%
50%
25%lung capacity(V75%
V50%
V25%) in 1 s were compared. The levels of tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) and high mobility group box1 protein B1(HMGB1) were detected in two groups. The clinical efficacy was evaluated after treatment. Results The total effective rate in the treatment group(90. 91%) was significantly higher than that of the control group(70. 45%
P < 0. 05). After treatment
the lung function index of PEF
FEV1
FEV1/FVC
V75%
V50%
V25% were increased in both groups
and TNF-α and HMGB1 levels were decreased(P < 0. 01).Compared with the control group
all index in the treatment were significantly improved after treatment(P < 0. 01).Conclusion Adjuvant therapy of the acupoint heat sensitization moxibustion can improve lung function of patients with a stable condition of COPD
inhibit serum levels of TNF-α and HMGB1
and improve the clinical efficacy of obstructive pulmonary disease.
