Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy and safety of Yiqi Tongluo Decoction( 益气通络汤)combined with lipoic acid in the treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathy with Qi and Yin deficiency and blood stasis syndrome. Methods Altogether 120 diabetic peripheral neuropathy patients were enrolled and divided into treatment group and control group randomly according to random number table
with 60 patients in each group. Both groups were treated with steady exercise
strict diet and western hypoglycemic therapy. Control group was given 0. 9%sodium chloride 250 ml + 600 mg lipoic acid injection by intravenous dripping
once a day. Treatment group was additionally given Yiqi Tongluo Decoction on the basis of control group
once a day. Both groups were treated for 3 weeks. The clinical efficacy of two groups was observed. The changes of motor conduction velocity( MCV) of median nerve and common peroneal nerve
sensory conduction velocity( SCV) of sural nerve
Toronto clinical scoring system( TCSS)
Chinese medicine syndrome score
and adverse reactions were measured before and after treatment. Results The total effective rate of treatment group was 91. 7%
which was significantly higher than 78. 3% of control group( P < 0. 05). The MCV of median nerve and common peroneal nerve
SCV of sural nerve of both groups were significantly increased after treatment( P < 0. 05)
and the treatment group was higher than the control group after treatment( P < 0. 05). TCSS and Chinese medicine syndrome score of two groups after treatment were significantly decreased after treatment( P < 0. 05)
and the treatment group has a more significant decrease compared with control group( P < 0. 05). No adverse reactions were found in two groups. Conclusion The therapeutic effect of Yiqi Tongluo Decoction combined with lipoic acid injection in the treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathy is obvious and with good safety.
