Cochrane library and Clinical Trials database. Two researchers independently screened the literature
extracted the data and checked the results
and used the risk assessment tool to evaluate the methodological quality. Rev Man 5. 3. 5 was used to analyze the efficacy and safety. Results A total of 18 randomized controlled trials of 1630 patients were included. Meta-analysis showed that the combination of massage therapy( acupoint massage/manipulation) with antihypertensive drugs and antihypertensive drugs alone could reduce systolic blood pressure by acupressure [MD =-9. 30
95% CI(-11. 15
-7. 46) ]
reduce diastolic blood pressure [MD =-5. 61
95% CI(-6. 87
-4. 36) ]
improve clinical total effective rate[RR = 1. 18
95% CI( 1. 06
1. 32) ]. Manipulation can also reduce systolic blood pressure [MD =-4. 74
95%CI(-7. 82
-1. 67) ]
decrease diastolic blood pressure [MD =-5. 00
95% CI(-7. 27
-2. 73) ]
improve clinical total effective rate [RR = 1. 22
95% CI( 1. 15
1. 30) ]. Both were statistically significant( P < 0. 05). No studies were reported adverse events in massage. Conclusion The efficacy of massage therapy combined with antihypertensive drugs in the treatment of essential hypertension is superior to antihypertensive drugs alone
