This paper summarized TANG Nong’ s experiences in treating adverse reactions of digestive tract caused by chemotherapy for cancer with Guizhi Method(桂枝法). Professor TANG Nong believes that the pathogenesis of this disease is yangqi deficiency in the interior which leads to phlegm dampness blockage in the middle-energizer and the upper-energizer affecting the function of the spleen and stomach. From the perspective of exterior yin and interior yang
it is believed that the essence of the disease is that yin and yang deviate from the normal state of exterior yin and interior yang
resulting in yin intruding into yang’s position
and the deficiency of yang in the interior cannot warm and transport earth(spleen)
resulting in the disorder of earth(spleen) in the middle. Treatment in the early period is to warm and activate the middle-energizer and upper-energizer
strengthen the earth(spleen) in the middle part
and warm and tonify the lower-energizer
and in the later period to replenish essence and marrow to make the yin and yang to return to normal state of exterior yin and interior yang.
