This paper summarized the ideas of MI Ziliang’s treatment of arthralgia syndrome. He believes that the core of arthralgia syndrome is blood stasis
and characterized by pain. The main pathological changes of arthralgia syndrome are the pathogens obstructing the meridians and qi and blood. "Blood stasis "is throughout the whole process of arthralgia syndrome. Accordingly
arthralgia syndrome is treated from 3 stages of early stage
middle stage and late stage. At the early stage
the body was attacked by the external contradiction of wind
cold
dampness heat
leading to disharmony of qi and blood
unsmooth movement of blood. Therefore
it should be treated by eliminating the evil. At the middle or late stage
the external pathogens and qi and blood were fighting in the meridians
leading to unsmooth movement of qi and blood in the meridians
and the blood stasis was formed. The treatment should focus on "unblocking"to activate blood circulation and qi movement
removing blood stasis and relieving pain. At the late and end stage
the healthy qi was damaged
and the deficiencies showed
especially blood deficiency and liver kidney deficiency
but the blood stasis still exist. The treatment should both tonify and nourish and resolve blood stasis.
