Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy of Yiqi Huoxue Lishui Recipe（ 益气活血利水方） in the treatment of chronic heart failure of water retention with qi deficiency and blood stasis. Methods A randomized controlled trial was conducted to divide 50 patients with chronic heart failure of water retention with qi deficiency and blood stasis into a treatment group（ 25 cases） and a control group（ 25 cases）. In addition to the basic treatment of western medicine

the treatment group was given Yiqi Huoxue Lishui Recipe with 1 dose per day

while the control group was given trimetazidine hydrochloride 10 mg each time and 3 times each day

and the courses of treatment were4 weeks. The cardiac function grading

6-minute walking distance（ 6 MWD） and traditional Chinese medicine（ TCM） syndrome scores of both groups were compared before and after treatment

and the curative effect of cardiac function was evaluated. Results For the comparison of New York Heart Association（ NYHA） cardiac function grading of the 2 groups before and after treatment

the treatment group was better than the control group（ P < 0. 05）.Compared with before treatment

6 MWD of the patients of 2 groups prolonged obviously（ P < 0. 05）. The treatment group was（ 339. 40 ± 52. 68） m and the control group was（ 294. 04 ± 56. 81） m. The difference was statistically significant（ P < 0. 05）. In terms of main symptom scores

the scores of the 2 groups were improved after treatment

and the scores of the qi deficiency symptoms（ short of breath

fatigue

asthma） in the treatment group improved greater than the control group after treatment（ P < 0. 05）. There was no statistically significant differences in the scores of blood statics（ heart palpitations

chest tightness

blood stasis in meridians and collaterals） and water retention symptoms（ face edema

bloating）（ P > 0. 05）. TCM syndrome total score of both groups declined after the score of treatment. The score of treatment group was（ 9. 44 ± 4. 81） and was（ 12. 96 ± 5. 71） of the control group. The difference was significant（ P < 0. 05）. Conclusion Adjuvant treatment of the Yiqi Huoxue Lishui Recipe can effectively improve the heart function of patients with chronic heart failure of water retention with qi deficiency and blood stasis

reduce TCM syndrome scores

and significantly extend 6 MWD.
