Exterior pattern is one of the important basic syndromes in the diagnosis of traditional Chinese medicine. With the change of academics

the concept of exterior pattern is constantly developing. The current concept of exterior pattern has problems such as broad etiology

limited disease course

absolute symptoms

and narrowing of extension. This makes the connotation of the concept of evidence be not clear enough

and the extension has not been fully developed. It has shown a situation that hinders the inheritance and development of Chinese medicine. Through the analysis of the connotation and extension of exterior pattern

a new concept of exterior pattern is proposed to further promote the improvement of the concept of exterior pattern.
