Objective To analyze correlation between yang-deficiency constitution and disease based on clinical study literatures on correlation between traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) constitution and disease. Methods Home and abroad clinical study literatures on the correlation between constitution and disease by using Classification and Determination of Constitution in TCM were systematically searched and included from April 1
2009(date of the standard issued) to December 31
2018. Basic characteristics of the literatures were analyzed. Disease types with the highest constitution proportion of yang-deficiency constitution were summarized
so as to analyze the correlation between yang-deficiency constitution and disease occurrence. Results A total of 214 clinical studies involving a total sample size of 75569 cases were included. There were 209 study results showing that yang-deficiency constitution was a constitution type with the highest proportion among patients they studied
involving 112 types of diseases. Infertility(22.8%)
osteoporosis(19.3%)
irritable bowel syndrome(29.1%)
knee osteoarthritis(27.3%)
dysmenorrhea(35.5%)
polycystic ovary syndrome(24.1%)
menopausal syndrome(37.2%)
rheumatoid arthritis(31.6%)
urinary calculi(21.0%)
large intestinal polyps(27.0%)
recurrent abortion(33.5%)
hypertension(27.8%)
cervical spondylosis(24.0%)
femoral head necrosis(39.6%) were reported in more than 3 literatures that yang-deficiency constitution shared the highest proportion from 19.3% to 39.6%. There were 26 studies showing that yang-deficiency constitution was a risk factor for osteoporosis
chronic fatigue syndrome and other diseases(OR: 2.227
9.057). Two studies found that yang-deficiency constitution was a protective factor for obesity(OR=0.450). Conclusion yang-deficiency constitution is closely related to diseases of reproductive endocrine system and skeletal system. Identification and regulation of TCM constitution will help to promote prevention and treatment of these diseases.
