We summarized the funding and output of integrative Chinese and western medicine from 2008 to 2018 by the National Natural Science Foundation of China(NSFA). The results show that the total number of researches funded in the field of integrative Chinese and western medicine is 2374
of which the number of funded researches in the field of clinical basic of integrative medicine is the largest. There are a total of 217 institutions funded by NSFA
of which 34 institutions get more than 20 funded projects each
and a total of 1725 projects have been funded. The subject terms of the funded researches of integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine are mainly disease systems
research methods
intervention measures and targets of action. Over 9000 papers published in the field of integrated Chinese and western medicine funded by NSFA
focusing on clinical research
mainly including coronary heart disease
peptic ulcer
metabolic disease
and diabetes as the major diseases of research concerns. Based on the funding and output
combined with the expert opinions of the strategic seminars
suggestions for the development of integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine are put forward
including integrated research on key common scientific issues
research on evidence-based clinical evaluation methods of integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine
integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine based on system biology and network pharmacology and other new methods
integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine research for disease and syndrome combination
integrative Chinese and western medicine basic and clinical research to "increase efficacy and reduce toxins
detoxify and preserve effects"
integrative Chinese and western medicine in the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases based on human microecology
research on acupuncture and analgesia
and research on integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine diagnosis and treatment equipment. It is recommended to strengthen the funding for basic research on degenerative diseases
reproductive medicine
pediatrics
and acute infectious diseases. Relatively weak areas are laid out and inclined in advance to promote the balanced development of disciplines.
