Professor ZHANG Binghou′s experience in the treatment of herpes zoster and sequelae neuralgia is summarized. Herpes zoster is mostly caused by the pathogenic wind and fire in the liver and gallbladder meridians
and the heat-toxicity is depressed on the skin; internal retention of damp-heat
intermingled toxicity and heat
and steamed skin cause redness and swelling; pathogenic toxin blocks the meridians and the ascending and descending of Qi is abnormal. The internal blockade of static blood causes severe pain. The herpes zoster is divided into three stages: pre-rash
eruptive
and post-herpetic neuralgia. In the pre-rash stage
the Xijiao Dihuang Decoction(犀角地黄汤) is used to clear heat and cool blood. In the eruptive stage
the Wupi Wuteng Drink(五皮五藤饮) is used to promote diuresis and dredge channels. The empirical prescription "Tengtong Sanliangsan"(疼痛三两三) is used in post-herpetic neuralgia stage to promotes blood circulation and relieves pain
