Pain is one of the dominant diseases of acupuncture. As pain is a complex physiological and psychological activity
its occurrence is closely related to psychological factors
which may influence the analgesia effect of acupuncture
and simultaneously may induce a placebo effect. This paper summarized the literature in recent years which studied the influence of psychological factors on acupuncture analgesia effect. The analysis showed that psychological factors such as benign emotional status
cognitive response and personality played an active role in promoting the effect of acupuncture analgesia
while the negative psychological factors attenuated the analgesia effect. Therefore
appropriate psychological counseling and guidance can help improving the effect of acupuncture on patients with pain. The placebo effect during acupuncture for analgesia was inevitable and should be dealt with reasonably.
