Objective To explore the effect of Yaotongning capsules（腰痛宁胶囊） combined with spinal micro-adjustment manipulation for treatment of discogenic low back pain. Methods Sixty patients with discogenic low back pain were randomly divided into control group and treatment group

with 30 patients in each group. Patients in the control group were administered with spinal micro-adjustment manipulation

once daily. Patients in the treatment group additionally took oral Yaotongning capsules

30 minutes before bed

1.2 g each time

once daily. The visual analogue scale（VAS） and Oswestry disability index（ODI） were used to assess patients′ pain and dysfunction before treatment and after three and six weeks of treatment. Results The VAS and ODI scores significantly decreased in both groups after three and six weeks of treatment compared to those before treatment（P<0.05）

and the decreases were more significant after six weeks′ treatment than after three weeks′ treatment（P<0.05）. Compared to the control group

the VAS and ODI scores were significantly lower after three weeks and six weeks of treatment（P<0.05）. Conclusion Yaotongning capsules combined with spinal micro-adjustment manipulation has a positive effect on relieving pain and improving quality of life in patients with discogenic low back pain

and six weeks of treatment contributes to better effect.
