Objective To evaluate the clinical effect of Gufei Decoction(固肺汤) in combination with Western medicine routine therapy on combined allergic rhinitis and asthma syndrome(CARAS). Methods Totally 107 CARAS patients from 4 hospitals were enrolled and randomly divided into control group(53 cases) and intervention group(54 cases) by SAS9.2 software. The intervention group was given Gufei Decoction(12 g) plus Western medicine
while the control group was given Gufei Decoction placebo plus Western Medicine. The interventions in both groups were administered twice daily for 24 weeks. The risk of acute attack of asthma
total nasal symptom score
and lung function were observed and calculated in the two groups before and after treatment. Results After treatment
the risk of the second acute attack of asthma and the total nasal symptom score were significantly decreased in intervention group compared to those of control group(P<0.05); there was no significantly statistical difference in the improvement of lung function between two groups(P>0.05). Conclusion Gufei Decoction may help to lower the risk of the second acute attack of asthma and to improve relevant nasal symptoms in patients with CARAS; however
the impact on lung function improvement was not obvious.
