This paper explored syndrome differentiation and treatment of tumor-related depression based on the theory that "all qi rushing and constraint is ascribed to the lung" recorded in Inner Canon of Yellow Emperor(《黄帝内经》). Tumor-related depression can be either disease-induced or drug-induced. Either cancer toxin invasion leading to healthy qi insufficiency
or postoperative weakness
or solid tumors obstructing the qi movement can induce failure of the lung to diffuse and govern descent
resulting in qi stagnation and phlegm coagulation accumulated in the body; the lose of qi and phlegm diffuse and release brings about the disease-related depression; banking up and supplementing lung qi is recommended to consolidate the root
while warming the lung and dissolving rheum
resisting cancer and resolving toxins is performed to reform from the bottom. The intestinal and skin adverse reactions(constipation
rash
etc.) induced by anti-cancer drugs can lead to the dysfunction of lung qi to diffuse and govern descent; hard stool and drug toxins are then accumulated in the body
and qi movement is constraint and cannot be diffused
resulting in the drug-induced depression; it is recommended to diffuse the lung to unblock the bowels and unblock sweat pores
so that the hard stool and drug toxins can be dispelled from the body through intestine and skin.
