Based on the clinical characteristics of chidlren tic disorder
this paper discussed the traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) pathogenesis of tic disorder from the axis of "liver-qi and blood-sinew membranes"
that is
"the functions of zang-fu(脏腑) organs-substance essence-disease location of five body constituents". With reference to the classic theories of "tough sinews" and "liver governing sinew-membranes"
it is proposed that the core pathogenesis of tic disorder is the dysfunction of liver in governing sinew-membranes
leading to apraxia of sinews. The pathogenic process is as follows: owing to externally-contracted six pathogenic factor
irregular diet
internal emotional damage
genetic and congenital factors
the function of the five zang organs are damaged; deficiency may cause insufficiency of qi
blood
essence and body fluids
making sinews loss of moisture or warmth; excess will disturb the transportation and distribution of cereal essence and induce constraints which can be transformed into wind
phlegm and fire
and the contention among them will obstruct the channel passages
thereby making the sinews loss of nourishing and leading twitch. The core disease location of zang-fu organs lies in liver
in close interaction with spleen
lung
heart and kidney; the disease location of five body constituents is sinews
