LU Shoukang.High and Low Dose Principle in the Combination of Medicinals[J].Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine,2021,62(18):1569-1572.DOI: 10.13288/j.11-2166/r.2021.18.002.
This paper analyses the dose of herbs in the formulas prescribed by famous doctors. It is found that the prescription should follow the principle of “chief
deputy
assistant and envoy”
and the dose of the chief
deputy
assistant and envoy medicinals should decrease from high to low. High dose of the chief medicinals in relation to the main disease
as well as low dose of assistant and envoy medicinals with clear target are recommended
and such formulas with significant differences between doses of chief medicinals and of assistant and anvoy medicinals follows the high and low dose principle. Equal dose of herbs without differentiating between the chief and deputy
as well as the primary and secondary medicinals
are not advocated; otherwise the effect of the formula will be weakened.
