This paper summarized Professor WANG Shouchuan's clinical experience in pattern identification and treatment of children's upper airway cough syndrome (UACS). It is believed that the disease location of children's UACS lies in the nose and pharynx, with the lung as the main involved organ. It is advocated to classify UACS into three types including allergic rhinitis type, sinusitis type, and chronic tonsillitis type, and syndrome differentiation is combined for treatment. The common syndromes of allergic rhinitis-type UACS include wind pathogen fettering the lung with lung

deficiency-cold syndrome and lingering latent wind with heat obstructing the lung orifice syndrome, for which self-formulated
Xiaofeng Xuanqiao Decoction
(消风宣窍汤)
and
Xinyi Qingfei Beverage
(辛夷清肺饮) are recommended respectively. The sinusitis-type UACS is commonly categorized into the syndrome of wind-heat internal constraint with phlegm-heat accumulating in the lung and the syndrome of damp-heat in the lung and spleen with gallbladder heat rising upwards, for which Modified
Cang'erzi Powder
(加味苍耳子散), and
Longdan Xiegan Decoction
(龙胆泻肝汤) combined with
Huangqin Huashi Decoction
(黄芩滑石汤) with modifications can be used respectively. The chronic tonsillitis-type UACS is mainly manifested as the syndrome of damp-heat accumulating in the lung and blocking the orifice, and the self-formulated
