Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) demonstrates significant advantages
in alleviating symptoms and reducing hospital readmission rates. Currently, there is no established syndrome diagnostic criteria for the convalescent period of CAP in the elderly, which hinders the full realization of TCM's therapeutic benefits. Based on the characteristics of the disease and adhering to the methodology for developing syndrome diagnostic criteria, this study integrated a preliminary clinical survey, two rounds of expert consultation, and a multicenter clinical investigation. Through statistical analysis and data mining, six common TCM syndromes during the convalescent period of CAP in the elderly were identified, including lung
qi
deficiency syndrome, spleen-lung
qi
deficiency syndrome, and lung
qi
and
yin
deficiency syndrome, along with their primary and secondary symptoms. Combining association rules, Bayesian network analysis, and research group discussions, the diagnostic conditions for these syndromes were determined, and the TCM syndrome diagnostic criteria for the convalescent period of CAP in the elderly were established. Validation results indicated that these criteria possess good clinical application value, and it may provide a basis for clinical diagnosis and treatment, education, and scientific research.
