Objective: To observe clinical therapeutic effect of Huang Lian Qing Jiang Mixture on primary hypertension. Methods: 46 cases of primary hypertension were treated by Huang Lian Qing Jiang Mixture and 26 cases were treated by Niu Huang Jiang Ya Pills as control group. Results: The therapeutic effect for reducing blood pressure in the treatment group was significantly higher than that of the control group （P<0. 05）. and the action of reducing blood pressure showed a significant time-effect relation between 3-6 hours after administration of the medicine.
