Objective To observe the effect of Simiao Yong’an Decoction (Decoction of four herbs for atherosclerosis) on rabbit atherosclerosis and its mechanism. Methods Thirty-six Japanese white rabbits were randomized into four groups: normal control group
model group
Simiao Yong’an group and simvastain group. The models were made through high fat diet
immune injury combined with femoral balloon bulling injury. Simiao Yong’an group was treated by Simiao Yong’an Decoction
raw medicine 11.25g/kg by gavage each time
twice a day; Simvastain group was treated by simvastain 5mg/kg by gavage each time
once a day; normal control group and model group were treated by normal saline by gavage
20ml each day. In the 0
3rd
6th
and 10th week
the concentration of superoxide dismutase (SOD)
malondialdehyde (MDA)
interleukin (IL-1)
tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α)
monocyte chemoattractan protein-1 (MCP-1)
and the expression of aortic nucleus factor-κB (NF-κB) were determined. Results Compared with those of the normal control group
the level of MDA
IL-1
TNF-α
MCP-1
and NF-κB of model group increased significantly at all time points (P<0.05 or P<0.01)
and there was relativity between SOD and TNF-α. Simiao Yong’an group and simvastain group could regulate MDA
IL-1
MCP-1
TNF-α
and MCP-1 at all tome points to different degrees and the expression of NF-κB in aorta wall (P<0.05 or P<0.01).Conclusion Simiao Yong’an Decoction can prohibit inflammation reaction and oxidative stress of atherosclerosis rabbits
strengthening the stability of atherosclerosis plague.
