Objective To observe the effect and mechanism of Gengnianshu Capsule (Herbal capsule for climacteric syndrome) on autonomic nervous system in the treatment of ovarian function decline in the perimenopausal rats. Methods Fifty rats were randomized into blank control group
model group
Gengnian’an group
Gengnianshu high-and low-dose groups with 10 in each.Except the blank control group
the rest groups were ovariectomized to make the models of perimenopausal ovarian function decline and treated with medicinal gavage for 45 days in succession. The changes of serum estradiol (E2)
follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH)
luteinizing hormone (LH)
thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH)
triiodothyronine (T3)
and tetraiodothyronine (T4) were observed. Results Compared with the model group
E2 level of the Gengnianshu high-dose group was significantly increased (P<0.01)
but it was not significantly increased in the Gengnianshu low-dose group and Gengnian’an group (P>0.05).Compared with the model group
FSH、LH of the Gengnianshu high-dose and low-dose groups and Gengnian’an group was significantly lowered (P<0.01).Compared with the model group
TSH of the Gengnianshu high-dose group was significantly decreased (P<0.05)
but there was no significant change in the Gengnianshu low-dose group and Gengnian’an group (P>0.05).Compared with the model group
T4 of the Gengnianshu high-dose group was significantly increased (P<0.01)
but there was no significant change in the Gengnianshu low-dose group and Gengnian’an group (P>0.05).Conclusion Gengnianshu Capsule can effectively improve the autonomic nervous function in the treatment of the ovariectomized rats.
