Objective To observe syndrome characteristic of acquired immune deficiency syndrome(AIDS) and discuss the effect of western medicine or combined with Chinese medicine on the syndrome. Methods The syndrome of 164 AIDS patients complicated by acute pulmonary infection was observed before and after the treatment. The syndrome characteristic of AIDS complicated by pulmonary infection was analyzed. Results After the treatment
the syndrome of phlegm-heat congesting the lung and phlegm-damp obstructing the lung decreased by 15.3% and 8.6% respectively. The syndrome of lung-kidney deficiency
qi-blood deficiency and qi-yin deficiency increased by 7.3%
2.4% and 0.6% respectively. The independent syndrome that is not related to AIDS complicated by pulmonary infection increased by 14.0%.Conclusion There are deficiency syndrome
repletion syndrome and deficiency-repletion complex syndrome in AIDS complicated by pulmonary infection. At the earlier stage
the repletion syndrome rather than the deficiency syndrome is predominant. But it is exactly the contrary at the later stage.
