"Spleen not taking charge of a certain season"and "spleen taking charge of later summer"are two opinions of understanding the relationship between spleen and four seasons in Chinese medicine. The essence of"spleen not taking charge of a certain season"refers to spleen being nourished in four seasons
spleen nourishing other four Zang viscera
as well as spleen being acquired foundation. While the essence of "spleen taking charge of later summer"refers to that spleen has close relationship with dampness in later summer. In later summer
spleen diseases are common. The connotations of these two opinions are different
but they are not contradictory
which complement each other in Chinese medical clinic application and play important guiding roles. Researching the theoretical development may promote the development of spleen-stomach theory.
