ZHANG Qicheng. The Connotation of the Core Values of Traditional Chinese Medicine Culture: Ren(仁),He(和),Jing(精),Cheng(诚)[J]. Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2018, 59(22): 1895-1900.DOI: 10.13288/j.11-2166/r.2018.22.002.
By studying the process of refining the core values of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) culture into the four characters of Ren(仁)
He(和)
Jing(精)
and Cheng(诚)
the paper expounded the four levels of them
which are the heart
the doctrine
the skill
and the morality of the doctor. Ren(仁) meaning kindheartedness
is the starting point of TCM and Chinese medicine practitioners. It is the conviction of practitioners
which is manifested in the benevolence of their medical skills and behaviors. He(和) meaning harmony
is the concentrated expression of the core values and ways of thinking of TCM. It is the essence of TCM
which is expressed in the view of nature as harmony between man and nature
in the view of society as harmony between man and self
in the view of the body as unity of physique and mental state
and in the concept of treatment as unity of yin and yang. Jing(精)meaning excellant
is the fundamental requirement for mastering the healing art of TCM. It is manifested that those who learn TCM should explore the medical sources
and be diligent and tireless
and those who make researches should be concentrated and attentive
as well as think carefully to understand. Cheng(诚) meaning honest
is the general requirement for the ethics and behavioral norms of TCM practitioners. It is manifested that doctors must be sincere and honest to patients
and must treat them with sincerity and keep faith without deceiving. And for themselves
they must restrain themselves in privacy and be self-discipline and integrated.
