This paper summarized the clinical experience of ZHANG Zhiyuan in the treatment of mind disorder with Dahuang （

Radix et Rhizoma Rhei

）. In case of madness caused by internal accumulation of excess pathogen， Dahuang is often used as the chief medicinal， at a dose of 15~60 g， which can unblock the bowels and break masses， attack the pathogens and calm the mind. For irritability and insomnia caused by qi constraint transforming into fire， and contention between qi and fire， usually 3~15 g of Dahuang is used to drain fire and break qi， eliminate vexation and calm reflection.For hiccup and vomiting induced by ascendant hyperactivity of liver yang， upward rushing of fire and heat， or inhibited qi movement， usually 1~6 g of Dahuang is suggested to direct qi downward and calm surging， normalize and relieve hiccup.In case of gynecological diseases combined with mind disorder of static blood syndrome， 3~15 g of Dahuang can be used to expel stasis and unblock channels， regulate and relieve constraint.
